Writers Block

Although it is not unusual for my mind to wander off in the imaginative plain that i escape to when i let myself to be alone to contemplate on the varied sparks that ignite the creative part of my brain, it is unusual when it come back empty handed even after an extensive exploration of my imagination. I guess this is my version of what pro writers call a stint of 'writers block'. But thankfully, unlike them, i know what is the remedy for this particular unpleasant situation in which i find myself now and i will be getting it in under 12 hours from now. I call it 'Office'.

It may sound unreal. However, i can guarantee you to all non-believers that, at least in my case, Office has always been the guiding star showing me the right way to creative bliss. That place never stops to amuse me.

In the coming weeks, i am going to post paintings done by my Grandfather Sri Rajagopala Warrier. He is 83 years old and still spend more than 6 hours a day in front of the canvas!! Amazing patience and concentration, i would say.

First picture in the series is that of Dhanwanthari Moorthi - God of Medicine. For more information read this wikipedia article

Why this Kolaveri Di?

A very simple and quick (more like an animated storyboard) animation done in Flash about the Mullaperiyar Dam Issue. Tamil Nadu is opposing the construction of a new dam instead of the existing one which will crumble any time annihilating the lives of close to 50,00,000 people: Single biggest massacre of humans in the recorded history of human beings.

Convert Number to Words in Excel

I have been searching for an Excel function that can convert a number to words (i.e. 34 as Thirty Four). I found one which uses custom VB script. Since i need a solution that will work in every computer, i was forced to develop one. It was not easy. After many 'If's and 'Vlookup's later i was able to achieve my goal. My excel sheet actually converted a number to text. You can download the file by following the link given below. It still needs a lot of work and at this stage it wont convert multiple values. In the meantime, if anyone can point me to any easier method, i will be greatful.

PS: Thanks Nithin for giving me the basic idea! :)

Patience

"There will be a time when loud-mouthed, incompetent people seem to be getting the best of you. When that happens, you only have to be patient and wait for them to self destruct. It never fails." - Richard Rybolt

Music

After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music - Aldous Huxley

I wanted to relax for sometime. What better way than listening to music and doodling??

Blue

Blue
Blue skies!! Such a relief after a week of heavy downpour, wet clothes and muddy roads.

Independence

Independence Day

"We end today a period of ill fortune and India discovers herself again. The achievement we celebrate today is but a step, an opening of opportunity, to the greater triumphs and achievements that await us. Are we brave enough and wise enough to grasp this opportunity and accept the challenge of the future?" -- Jawaharlal Nehru

Grey

Grey

Today i went to Palakkad - The Rice City. It was raining when we left home and by the time we reached the place, signs of monsoon had begun to disappear. Palakkad is not known for its rains. However by the time i started my journey back home, the weather had changed. I could see ominous looking clouds gathering in the horizon. The sun had already disappeared behind the thick cloud cover. It would be a stormy evening for 'em, i told myself, turned my head away from the clouds and started my southbound journey to Home, to a hot cup of coffee and a warm bed.

Power Off

Lanes

Today was strike day for the 1 Million bank employees in India. Since i had not joined in the union, i had to go to office, a deserted office. I had some pending work to do and i was at it the moment i reached office. By the time the clock stroke 6 and i shut down the PC, i was able to finish all the pending work. As i came out i couldn't help noticing the puzzled look on the face  of the lone Security Guard at the front gate. What was he thinking, i dont know. Strike or no strike, it was another back breaking day for me.

Green Asphalt

The Protective wall of Urakam Temple is BIG and two months of non-stop rains have turned the wall to a moss covered green turf. I had to take a picture of it. There was no escaping the pull. The result u can see above.
